What Is Hydrojet Drain Cleaning and How Does It Work?
Hydrojet drain cleaning is a professional pipe-cleaning method that uses pressurized water — typically 3,500 to 4,000 PSI — delivered through a specialized nozzle on a flexible hose. The forward-facing jets cut through clogs while rear-facing jets propel the hose down the line and scour the pipe walls clean as it advances. The result is a pipe restored to its full inside diameter, not just a small hole punched through a blockage.
The equipment consists of a water tank, a high-pressure pump, a flexible jetter hose, and interchangeable nozzles for different jobs (penetrator, root cutter, flusher, chain knocker). Every job starts with a video camera inspection so we know exactly what we are working with before any water hits the pipe.
What Problems Does Hydrojet Drain Cleaning Solve?
- Grease and fat buildup — high pressure scours hardened grease off the pipe walls, where snaking just bores a tunnel through it.
- Tree root intrusion — root-cutter nozzles slice roots flush with the pipe interior in one pass.
- Mineral scale and calcium deposits — hard-water scale that has hardened to the pipe wall lifts off under high-pressure water.
- Recurring slow drains — when a drain clogs every few months, it usually means biofilm or grease has coated the pipe. Hydrojetting fixes the underlying cause.
- Sewer backups and overflow — full main line restoration to prevent repeat sewage backups.
- Pre-inspection camera prep — before sewer-scope inspections (real estate transactions, insurance claims) we hydrojet the line first so the camera can see clearly.

- Retail and office building main lines

- After-hours service to avoid downtime
Is Hydrojetting Safe for My Pipes?
For pipes in sound structural condition, yes — including PVC, cast iron, clay, copper, and ABS. We always start with a camera inspection to confirm two things: the type of pipe and whether the line is structurally intact. Severely corroded cast iron, deteriorating orangeburg (a paper-based pipe used 1945–1970), or pipes with active cracks should not be hydrojetted at full pressure. In those cases we reduce pressure or recommend a different fix. We will never jet a line that we believe will be damaged by it — and we tell you that upfront, on camera, before any water flows.
Hydrojet Drain Cleaning Cost — What to Expect
Residential single drains typically run $150–$300. Residential main sewer lines run $300–$500. Commercial drain cleaning ranges $300–$800, and commercial grease trap plus main line runs $600–$1,200. Emergency and after-hours service includes a $75–$150 surcharge. Camera inspection is $100–$250 as an add-on, often included on larger jobs.
